Songs of Christmas – Day 15

Yes, I know my last post was 13. But since yesterday was a crazy day (I hosted a Christmas party last night), I failed to post. So like hotels don’t have 13th floors, I won’t have a song for day 14. Oh well.

I learned something new today when I looked up the song Mary Did You Know. I had no idea it was such a modern song, having been written by Mark Lowry in 1984, with music written by Buddy Greene. My personal favorite rendition is by Clay Aiken, from his Merry Christmas with Love album. (See Aiken perform Mary Did You Know?)

Mary, Did you Know?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

Oh Mary, did you know?

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will walk again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I Am.

About Julia

Here's what you might like to know about me. My name is Julia and I'm a Christian. I love the Bible and, much less importantly, a good steak. My goal with this site is to share the truth of scripture with believer and non-believer alike, and to specifically encourage believers to study and know the Bible, and warn them of false teachings in and around the church. Romans 1:16-17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, the just shall live by faith."

That line about kissing the face of God…that blew me away the first time I really paid attention to it. I’m still a big fan of the Michael English recording. Believe it or not, Cee Lo Green has a really nice version of it that’s been floating around on Facebook lately.
