Don’t Miss List 1.27.14

Happy Monday morning to all of you reading in real time. It’s been ages since I posted a Don’t Miss List and work being what it is right now, it’s about all I have time to post today.

Read the Bible in context, so this doesn’t happen

Chris Martin (at Chris Martin Writes) explains how the failure of examining the Scriptures in context has led to a problematic belief system based on the misappropriation of Philippians 4:13. I personally have noticed the same thing with abuse of Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalm 46:10.

For all the ladies

My new twitter friend Vanessa at Hearts on Guard has a post about “resisting the exploitation of emotion in American Christianity.” It’s worth looking at.

Christians Caught in the Crossfire

My story last week for World magazine online was about the recent killing of several Christians in El Salvador. Gang wars plague the country that is not known for persecution. You can find it here.

About Julia

Here's what you might like to know about me. My name is Julia and I'm a Christian. I love the Bible and, much less importantly, a good steak. My goal with this site is to share the truth of scripture with believer and non-believer alike, and to specifically encourage believers to study and know the Bible, and warn them of false teachings in and around the church. Romans 1:16-17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, the just shall live by faith."
