J.D. Greear’s Thoughts about Jesus’ Suffering

Pastor J.D. Greear has a thoughtful post called Three Lessons from Jesus in His Darkest Valley. Although it focuses on Gethsemane, I still find it helpful this Good Friday morning.

Every year, as Easter approaches, I’m tempted to rush through passion week and just focus on the resurrection. It’s such a beautiful and empowering end to the story, a message that both Christians and non-Christians need on a daily basis. But as I re-read the passion narrative this week, it struck me again that without the pain and gore of the passion, the resurrection is meaningless. And without the suffering of the passion, Jesus doesn’t offer us any answer to the pain and suffering of our lives,” Greear writes.

You can find the three lessons he draws from this at his website.

About Julia

Here's what you might like to know about me. My name is Julia and I'm a Christian. I love the Bible and, much less importantly, a good steak. My goal with this site is to share the truth of scripture with believer and non-believer alike, and to specifically encourage believers to study and know the Bible, and warn them of false teachings in and around the church. Romans 1:16-17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, the just shall live by faith."
